This series contains the files of the Executive Secretary to the President of the University of New Hampshire. The position changes to Assistant to the President in 1937. The files deal mostly with the various summer conferences and institutes held on the UNH campus. There are also records referring to the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP). This series covers three different individuals who held the position: Edward Y. Blewett, 1930-39; Arwood Northby, 1939-44; and Francis E. Robinson, 1944-45.

The position of Executive Secretary was created in 1918 to assist the president. The duties were to help the president oversee daily procedures and to organize events on campus. The recreational area known as Lewis Fields at the University of New Hampshire was begun in December of 1933 and finished in September of 1936. It was named for President Edward M. Lewis. The facility was built using funds from the various federal relief agencies set up to help alleviate unemployment during the Great Depression of the 1930's.
